Ubisoft confirms $200 Gibson Guitar bundle for Rocksmith

Ubisoft has confirmed it is partnering with Gibson Guitar to offer agenuine Epiphone Les Paul Junior guitar inside specially marked boxes of its upcoming realisticmusictitle Rocksmith. The optional edition will include the game, Les Paul and a custom made Rocksmith Real Tone Cable for US$199.99; a small price to pay for learning how to be a real/virtual rock god. Or is it?

A Les Paul-free edition will also be available for $79.99 when the game launches this fall. It too will include Ubisoft’s proprietary Real Tone Cable which will let players plug in their own axe of choice to jam with Rocksmith on home consoles or PCs. At first glance, the $120 difference might not appear steep considering the special edition ships with a “holy crap this is real!” guitar, but the Epiphone Les Paul Junior itself is currently selling for aroundUS$129 online (opens in new tab). This in mind, the bundle doesn’t offer too much of a discount, but itmay bea sweet deal for players who don’t already have a guitar at home.

Rocksmith is Ubisoft’s forthcoming attempt to reignite the guitar game genre by offering the ability to play a real guitar along to roghly 45 licensed songs from well known artists like David Bowie and Nirvana. Both the bundle and regular edition will be out for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC this Fall.
