Every Xbox One copy of Quantum Break comes with Alan Wake, for free

Remember Remedy’s last Microsoft exclusive, the psychological thriller/ghoul blaster, Alan Wake (opens in new tab)? No? Then listen up.

Following on from the likes of Fallout and Rainbow Six, every Xbox One copy of Quantum Break (opens in new tab) will throw in the newly backwards compatible Alan Wake (with both of its DLC expansions) for free. It’s a nice way of introducing people to ol’ Alan, an unsung hero – not least because he might make a sneaky appearance in the new game (opens in new tab).

On top of that, those who pre-order the digital Xbox One version get the just-announced Windows 10 edition for free – is Microsoft getting its own cross-buy situation?

Finally, remember how Alan Wake’s American Nightmare (opens in new tab) was accidentally outed along with Red Dead Redemption (opens in new tab) for backwards compatibility this week? It turns out that selected (and as-yet-unannounced) retailers will also give pre-orderers the download-only semi-sequel as an extra bonus. Both games will become backwards compatible for existing owners, too.
