Ruben Fleisher’s Gangster Squad continues to add to its terrifically starry cast, with Nick Nolte the latest big name to sign on for the period crime drama.
Nolte is set to play Bill Parker, the new chief of police in ’40s Los Angeles who sets about attempting to clean up an increasingly corrupt department. It is he who sets up the task force from which the film takes its name.
Adapted by Castle writer Will Beall from a series of newspaper articles by Paul Lieberman, the film will document the illicit shenanigans of powerful gangster Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) and the endeavours of the elite unit of coppers attempting to bring him to justice.
Nolte joins one of the most exciting ensembles of recent times, with a roll call including Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Anthony Mackie, Emma Stone, Robert Patrick, Giovanni Ribisi and Michael Peña.
Nolte has been a busy man of late, with MMA drama Warrior soon to arrive in cinemas, and work recently finishing on the Jason Statham-starring Parker . He was also recently added to Robert Redford’s forthcoming thriller The Company You Keep .
