Netflix’s adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events lands early next year. We’ve witnessed a brief teaser (opens in new tab) and now a full-length trailer is here to make you ponder one question: is this a Tim Burton TV show?
Well, I’ll answer that for you right now: no, it’s nothing to do with Burton. The show, like the 2004 movie, is based on the Lemony Snicket novels about a trio of orphaned kids who fall under the guardianship of a grumpy relative. That kook who comes to care for them is Neil Patrick Harris, in what could be the role he was born to play – Count Olaf.
While he appeared decidedly sinister in that earlier preview, here he gets chance to stretch his comedy muscles and deliver some rather amusing moments. Check it out:
It looks like Netflix plans to strike a balance between the wonderfully bonkers and the more normal aspects of life, as the Baudelaire kids try to keep their inheritance out of Olaf’s hands. I mean, who doesn’t like a dastardly villain who’s willing to dress up like a 1940s femme fatale?
Starring Neil Patrick Harris, Patrick Warburton and Joan Cusack, all eight episodes from the first season of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events will be available to stream from January 13, 2017.
