Last month Die Hard and Harry Potter actor, Alan Rickman, sadly passed away after a battle with cancer (opens in new tab), and while fans took the time to remember his most iconic roles (opens in new tab), they also took comfort from the fact that they’d have one more chance to experience his incredible acting ability in cinema. Rickman reprised his role as the Blue Caterpillar for the Alice in Wonderland sequel, Through the Looking Glass, and director, James Bobins, recently spoke to Total Film magazine about what it was like working with the star.
“It’s a terrible honour to have,” says Bobins. “Obviously he’s exceptional; an incredible voice. As a performer, that’s such a rare thing to have – the moment you open your mouth, to know exactly who that is. But he has that. It lends us gravity. Absolem [aka the Blue Caterpillar] is the wise, mysterious, oblique person that he is in the books. From the first movie, Alan absolutely nailed it. And he really guides you into our movie. It starts with him, and he takes Alice back.”
Directed by James Bobin and starring Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Alan Rickman, Alice Through the Looking Glass will hit UK and US cinemas on May 27, 2016.
