Star Wars: The Last Jedis Daisy Ridley reveals more of Rey and Lukes story: “Its difficult when you meet your heroes”

Star Wars Celebration Orlando 2017 (opens in new tab) not only revealed the first Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer (opens in new tab), it also gave us a fair few plot and character details too. Daisy Ridley was no longer able to avoid Josh Gad’s questions, as her Murder on the Orient Express co-star was the presenter for The Last Jedi (opens in new tab) panel.

After a certain amount of goofing around – “Who doesn’t know their own last name?!” – Gad finally got Ridley to talk about what we can expect in Star Wars 8. “Do you know I actually can tell you some things. Yeah, yeah. A small amount I have for you,” she teased.

“What I can say is, in The Last Jedi, we go deeper into Rey’s story. And what is very apparent from where we left off in The Force Awakens (opens in new tab) and where we begin with The Last Jedi is Rey has a certain expectation as to what she might be getting from Luke and what that might entail. And as a lot of people know, it’s difficult when you meet your heroes because it might not be what you expect.”

It sounds kind of ominous, doesn’t it? Like Rey might be disappointed in Luke. Plus, that final line from Luke in the trailer – “It’s time for the Jedi to end” – might suggest that Luke doesn’t want to train Rey. That he doesn’t think there should be anymore Jedi. Uh oh.

Keep an eye our Star Wars Celebration Orlando 2017 hub page (opens in new tab) for more news from the event as it happens.

Directed by Rian Johnson and starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Laura Dern, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, and Benicio del Toro, Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in cinemas on December 15, 2017.
