The next update for Star Wars Battlefront (opens in new tab) will be a long-awaited olive branch for fans of the original Battlefront games. On July 20, a dedicated one-or-two-player Skirmish mode will let you play the Walker Assault and Fighter Squadron modes offline against computer-controlled opponents, EA (opens in new tab) has announced.
Battlefront already had dedicated Missions which could be undertaken in offline co-op, but it was kinda lame not being able to play Walker Assault’s big, cinematic battles on the couch with a friend. My fondest memories of the Battlefront games remain blasting NPC ewoks and capturing Rebel points at my buddy’s house, so it warms my heart to know a new generation will soon get to do the same. Well, minus the ewok blasting (opens in new tab). They might have to wait until the new Star Wars Battlefront 2 (opens in new tab) to do that.
EA also confirmed that Battlefront’s Death Star DLC is planned for release in September. The third, penultimate expansion pack will include new maps, weapons, and Star Cards as usual, as well as two new hero characters. EA’s keeping their identities secret for now, but it did tease that one of them is a “larger-than-life character we know you’ve been patiently waiting for”.
Mon Mothma? Bossk? IG-88? Dark Bossk? EA plans to give a preview of the Death Star expansion at its Star Wars Celebration Europe panel on Thursday, July 16, so we might not have to wait long to find out.
