Rumor says Until Dawns getting DLC that works with PlayStation VR

Oh good. First the PlayStation VR Kitchen demo and now Until Dawn (opens in new tab) might have a future in virtual reality based terror. In an email sent to Destructoid (opens in new tab) and apparently “verified and confirmed through a second independent source,” it’s reported that Sony is currently running playtests for a VR experience based on Until Dawn’s various nasties.

“Well you get transported around inside a mine cart; it’s very literally an on-rails experience,” says the email, presumably from a player. “There are a few scattered jumpscares, as you’d expect, but I played the same 20 minute section twice (once with DS4, once with dual Move controllers. It starts off shooting targets in the snow, then moves toward a house and as you get deeper into the house, enemies start appearing.”

The DLC is allegedly named Rush Of Blood and the player didn’t know which character they were behind the eyes of. This would all sound a lot less plausible if it weren’t for a recent PlayStation Lifestyle (opens in new tab) interview with Supermassive Games executive producer Pete Samuels in which he had an interesting response to a VR question. “PlayStation VR cropped up in conversation a few times during development but no, we don’t expect that there’ll be an edition of the Until Dawn story to be playable in VR anytime soon. Not unless somebody has a sudden rush of blood!” Curiouser and curiouser.

This is exactly the kind of experience that will work best for PlayStation VR so it makes sense as a tech demo using Until Dawn’s world. Whether Supermassive will release it as DLC or if it will live in demo land forever who knows but it’s good to know there are Sony teams busying away pre launch next year.
