The first Nintendo Direct after Iwatas passing is on Thursday

The first Nintendo Direct in a world without Satoru Iwata (opens in new tab) will be broadcast on Thursday. Nintendo of Europe president Satoru Shibata is set to appear in the European broadcast starting at 10 pm GMT, while Nintendo of America’s broadcast will begin simultaneously at 2 pm PST.

It won’t be the same without Iwata’s good-natured goofiness at the helm, but it’s reassuring to see Nintendo carry on in his absence after a few months of quiet. The company has a relatively sparse release calendar this year, but I’d expect to see some news about Yo-Kai Watch (opens in new tab) and Xenoblade Chronicles X (opens in new tab), which is set to be released on December 4 in North America and Europe.

We may get an update on Zelda Wii U (opens in new tab) if we’re lucky, since it ducked out of E3 earlier this year. And don’t expect any news on Nintendo’s mysterious console successor. The company’s said several times that it won’t have more to say about NX (opens in new tab) until 2016.
