Looks like Shenmue HD is coming, at least if these web registrations are anything to go by

With Shenmue 3 (opens in new tab) slated to arrive on PlayStation 4 later this year, fans have been wondering about the best way to get caught up to speed. Do you replay the originals? They can be hard to find, expensive, and require older consoles to play. If only there was a way to play these games on modern console. A Shenmue remaster; “Shenmue HD,” if you will. What’s that? You say Sega Europe has registered (opens in new tab) web domains for ShenmueRemastered.com and ShenmueHD.com? Well, ain’t this a fine how-do-you-do.

It appears @SEGA_Europe has registered a couple new Shenmue domains! https://t.co/QoxOAWJMdU | https://t.co/SDpI8Vwao0 Announcement in 2017? pic.twitter.com/5AbXLMk5RuJanuary 6, 2017

Fan site Sega Nerds (opens in new tab) discovered the domain registration, speculating that this could mean an announcement later this year. And it could, but keep in mind that companies will sometimes buy up domains just to make sure nobody else gets them. We really don’t have much option but to wait and see what Sega says.

A remaster would definitely be a surprise, considering the best Sega could say about such a project – even as recently as September of last year – was that it was considering it. “It is a project from many years ago,” Sega Europe boss Jurgen Post told MCV (opens in new tab). “If we are to do it, we’d want to do a fantastic conversion to the current platforms, and there are a lot of licences in the game, which were cleared many years ago, so we will need to renegotiate those contracts. We are looking into it. We haven’t given it a green light, but it has our full attention.”

Well Sega, now you have our full attention.
