Young-adult saga The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones has released a brand new trailer online, starring Lily Collins as precocious heroine Clary Fray who finds herself a witness to a bizarre murder.
This all comes about when teen tearaway Clary pitches up at New York’s Pandemonium Club, and stumbles upon a trio of tattooed killers doing away with their victim, before said victim’s body promptly vanishes!
Turns out he was a demon, and the trio of killers are actually Shadowhunters – a race of warriors charged with cleaning up Earth’s demon population. Before Clary can leave well alone, she’s pulled in up to her neck in a dangerous world she never knew existed…

With the young-adult marketplace becoming increasingly cluttered, it remains to be seen whether The Mortal Instruments can enjoy the success of its competitors, but Collins looks a spiky enough lead, and the story is an engaging one.
Directed by Harald Zwart and co-starring Lena Headey, Robert Sheehan and Jared Harris, The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones will open in the US on 23 August 2013, with a UK date to be confirmed.
