Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter will receive BFI Fellowships at the 2012 London Film Festival awards ceremony on 20 October 2012.
The pair – who have frequently collaborated since first working together on Burton’s Planet Of The Apes ‘reimagining’ – live together in London with their two children.
Bonham Carter said of the accolade, “I am somewhat bewildered and not sure that I am deserving of such an honour as a Fellowship from the BFI, but shall accept it with deep gratitude.”
Burton commented, ““I feel very touched and grateful to the BFI for this tremendous honor. It means more than I can put into words to receive the BFI Fellowship and to be included alongside the great directors who have received it before me.”
Between them, the couple will have a significant presence at the LFF, as Burton’s Frankenweenie opens the fest, and Bonham Carter stars in the closer, Great Expectations .
HBC has so far appeared in seven of Burton’s movies.
The inclusion of awards at the 2012 LFF marks the first time that the fest has included a competitive element.
