Gosling, Gordon-Levitt and Skarsgrd on Man From U.N.C.L.E. wishlist

A report by The Wrap is claiming that Ryan Gosling, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Alexander Skarsgård are potentially stars of Warner Bros’ Man From U.N.C.L.E. remake.

Apparently George Clooney will definitely not star in the Steven Soderbergh-directed TV adaptation, despite having been linked to the project for some time.

The Wrap ’s report claims the studio is seeking “a leading man in his 20s,” with Gosling, Gordon-Levitt and Skarsgård on the executives’ wishlist.

It seems WB is after a hunk du jour to play the Robert Vaughn role of American agent Napoleon Solo. There’s currently no word on who could play his partner, Russian Illya Kuryakin.

The ‘60s TV series was based around the fictional U.N.C.L.E. (United Network Command For Law Enforcement), a super-secret international intelligence agency. Its main purpose was bringing down evil organisation THRUSH (Technological Hierarchy For The Removal Of Undesirables And The Subjugation Of Humanity).

The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
has been on Soderbergh’s radar for aaages now, and we’ve got our fingers crossed he gets round to making it before he retires.

It’ll surely be extremely tongue-in-cheek, but with the Haywire trailer proving Soderbergh can deliver full-throttle action, perhaps we’ll get a decent action-comedy that’s both thrilling and funny for a change.

Soderbergh’s Contagion opens on 21 October 2011, and Haywire opens 20 January 2012.
