Music has always been one of Fallout’s most underappreciated aspects. From the whispering winds and ghostly traffic sounds of the original game, to the pompous NCR brass of Fallout: New Vegas, music makes a massive contribution to the series’ unique atmosphere. Thankfully, Fallout 4 (opens in new tab) is already getting its due in the most reverent way possible: an accordion theme cover.
First, here’s the swelling glory of the original, in case you forgot:
Now here’s the accordion cover:
Despite his name, YouTuber Jackson Parodi doesn’t delve into Weird Al polka territory with his take on Fallout 4. It’s completely sincere, and surprisingly good – I wouldn’t mind wandering into a Commonwealth pub to find a similarly bespectacled and mustachioed performer playing it on stage. Come to think of it, I would be surprised if such a comically complex instrument managed to survive centuries of nuclear winter and hard living – post-apocalyptic accordion ownership would require a really high Repair skill.
Wait, sorry, Fallout 4 doesn’t break out skills any more. I’d better get back to the Fallout 4 character creator (opens in new tab) and brush up on my builds…
