E3 will continue to be held in Los Angeles through 2015

Though much of the video game industry wont be happy to hear it, the Electronic Software Association announced today that they plan to hold the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles for the next three years.

For years there have been rumors that the ESA might move the expo to a new city, causing a flutter of excitement to radiate through the business. Los Angeles is an amazing and vibrant cultural center, but the downtown area where the expo is held leaves much to be desired. 2010, for instance, featured both an earthquake that swayed high rise hotels, as well as a riot!

There had been calls for the expo to come to the burgeoning video game hub of Austin, or Boston which has been a wonderful location for PAX East. But to no avail.

“We are proud to partner with Los Angeles for another three years. The City serves as a strong backdrop for the video game industry’s biggest announcements and we look forward to remaining in LA,” said Michael D. Gallagher, CEO of the ESA via official announcement. “Video games are a dominant force in the global entertainment marketplace and there is no better place to display that than Los Angeles. We look forward to continuing our relationship with the City and AEG.”
