Borderlands 2 is official, coming fiscal year 2013

2K Games and Gearbox Software have officially booked their return trip to the loot-filled planet of Pandora, announcing the arrival of Borderlands 2 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC as early as next spring.

Scheduled for release in fiscal 2013 – that is,the year beginning April 1st, 2012 – the sequel to Gearbox’s 2009 cel-shaded shooter-RPG will star a new cast of characters and enemies, fresh gear, new skills, improved AI, a tweaked mission system, and previously unplundered parts of Pandora. Once again, players will be able to form teams of four and, as 2K Games describes, %26ldquo;Reveal secrets, and escalate mysteries of the Borderlands universe as they adventure across the unexplored new areas of Pandora.%26rdquo;

The first promo pics for Gearbox’s follow-up can be found on the newly launchedwebsite (opens in new tab), and more details are set to arrive with the next issue ofGame Informer (opens in new tab), which features Borderland 2 as its September cover story. The game will also be shown off later this month in itsmost current form atGamescom 2011 (opens in new tab)in Cologne, Germany, from August 17th to 21st; and again atPAX Prime (opens in new tab)in Seattle, Washington, from August 26th to 28th.
