BioWare and Ubisoft clean up at the 2nd Annual Canadian Videogame Awards

Among the night’s top winners were BioWare Edmonton’s Mass Effect 2, which took home trophies in the Game of the Year, Best Console Game, Best Game Design and Best Writing categories. Ubisoft Montreal’s Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood fared second-best with awards for Best Visual Arts and Best Audio.

Other stand-out award recipients include Hothead Games’s Deathspank, for Best Downloadable Game; United Front Games’s ModNation Racers, for the Innovation Award; and XnEh?’s WOMP!, which was voted top place for Best Student Game.

“Congratulations to all of the winners tonight and to all of the incredible games nominated,” said Victor Lucas, host and executive producer of The Electric Playground (a.k.a. the best and only real videogame show us Canuck kids had growing up) and CVA co-founder, adding, “The work on display at the ceremony tonight was world-class and illustrated once again that Canadian game developers are second to none when it comes to creating interactive entertainment!”

The big event, including a performance by Video Games Live, is set to air May 29th on G4 Canada. The main site (opens in new tab) has yet to be updated, but you can check out the full list of nominees and last night’s victors (opens in new tab) here.
