Ben Stiller to direct horror The Mountain

Over at Fangoria (opens in new tab) , Paranormal Activity 3 directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman explain how they’ve “come to realise that horror and comedy are actually very similar, timing-wise. They’re both about building tension and then releasing that tension.”

It seems comedian Ben Stiller has come to the same conclusion.

The Zoolander and Tropic Thunder director’s next project sees him dip his toe into horror territory with The Mountain .

Set in the early 1900s, it’s based on Edith Wharton’s 1917 novel, Summer – about a young woman who stumbles upon a mysterious object that forces her to examine the secrets of her past.

The project reunites Reality Bites director Stiller with that film’s writer Helen Childress, after 20th Century Fox bought her spec script.
