Update 2: Another controller has leaked the existence of the Xbox Series S (opens in new tab). This time, Twitter user @BraviaryBrendan (opens in new tab) got a leaflet in a replacement controller that also specifically mentioned the Xbox Series S. It looks like an official announcement for the new console is coming sooner rather than later. 

 

Update 1: We’ll be waiting a little longer for an Xbox Series S announcement. A Microsoft spokesperson has said in a statement to GamesRadar about the potential console: “We have a lot in store for Xbox in 2020 and can’t wait to share with you. However, we have nothing to announce at this time.” 

Original: The Xbox Series S, presumably Project Lockhart (opens in new tab), has been confirmed by a leaked Xbox One X controller that has surfaced online. 

Twitter user Zak S (opens in new tab) (via The Verge (opens in new tab)) claims he managed to pick up the controller via OfferUp, an online marketplace, and posted photos of the controller and the packaging online. As you can see in the embedded tweet below, the box says the controller will work on “Xbox Series X|S”.

Another tweet from Zak S shows them taking it out of the box to prove it’s authenticity, as well as showing the slightly beefier size of the next Xbox controller.

It’s the latest, and certainly most concrete, in a long line of leaks when it comes to another Xbox Series console. It’s long been rumoured that Microsoft had a digital-only alternative to the Xbox Series X (opens in new tab), with a recent report stating that references to Lockhart had been found in Window’s OS Code (opens in new tab). Like the PS5 (opens in new tab) All-Digital Edition, another rumour about the Xbox Series S is that it will be cheaper, potentially half the price of the Xbox Series X.
